CHALLENGES FACED BY NIGERIAN STUDENTS IN THE WAKE OF COVID 19

ABSTRACT

The objective of the study is to assess the Challenges faced by Nigerian students in the wake of the coronavirus in education in federal universities. The descriptive survey research design was employed in the study. The population of the study consisted of students (22,000) from each faculty in the school. The population was divided into stratas and then the convenience sampling technique was employed in the study. A sample size of 720 resident students was selected. The research instrument for the study was the questionnaire, which was validated and verified. Descriptive statistics were used in analyzing the data for the study. According to the study's findings, Covid-19 had an impact on students through the shutdown of schools, lowering employment rates, delaying students' completion of their education, and supporting instructors financially. The challenges of COVID-19 for eLearning include a lack of energy, a sluggish internet connection, and a lack of one-on-one interaction between the professor and the students. The cancellation of academic activities in 2020 was significantly impacted by Covid-19. Information on Covid-19 was gathered through the internet, websites, and social media, all of which are digital platforms. The study therefore recommends that the government should create top-notch educational facilities and outfit them with cutting-edge technology that can support online learning by offering digital tools and internet connections. Even when there are no pandemics or natural disasters, the government should be sure to employ online teaching methods such as integrated digital learning platforms, video courses, broadcasting through radio and TV, etc. as a supplement to traditional classroom instruction.
