ABSTRACT
The study aimed to explore potential solutions to construction failures and project abandonment in Benin City, as perceived by respondents. The analysis of the data revealed diverse perspectives and varying levels of agreement on the effectiveness of different strategies. First and foremost, with regards to the gender of the respondents, the study revealed that most of the workers studied were males (74.8%) with only few females (25.2%). The males constituted 89 out of the 119 respondents with only 30 females. This discovery of the study reinforced the demographics and industry employment of civil engineering (2011) assertion that the construction profession is dominated by males. In conducting this study, various root causes of construction failures ad project abandonment in Benin city were identified, which may lead to project timeline and budget not fulfilled, poor project management practices, such as risk management ad lack of skilled personnel, can also contribute to project failure. Additionally, external factors like legal precedents, and environmental challenges were found to play a significant role in project delays and abandonment. By identifying these root causes, stakeholders can address underlying issues and implement targeted solutions to prove project outcomes. (Johnson, 2018) It is also important to note that understanding the consequences of construction failures and project abandonment is crucial for assessing the broader impact on the society, economy, and infrastructure, (Michael, 2022). Economic consequences may include wasted resources, and reduced productivity. Social consequences could manifest as displacement of communities, loss of livelihood and increased social tension. Again, according to Pentoski, 2019, infrastructural consequences may result in incomplete or substandard facilities, comprising safety and quality of life for residents. By comprehensively understanding these consequences, policy makers, investors, and project stakeholders can appreciate the urgency of addressing construction challenges and prioritize effective interventions.
