ABSTRACT

This research seeks to highlight cartoons as a tool for communication which aims at creating humour, satirize political events and show the metaphorical concepts which are carefully structured. In the effort to examine the role played by cartoons with the need for the study to show the different ways cartoons communicate to both the learned and uneducated people, about 15 cartoons in which 12 are political cartoons, and 3 are funny cartoons, are selected for study from Vanguard newspaper. The work employs Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) Conceptual Metaphor Theory. In conclusion, cartoons play a vital role in communicating to the masses by documenting, critiquing and reflecting social and political issues.
