ABSTRACT
This study focuses on surveying students’ perception of the movie, Citation as a campaign against sex for grades in Nigerian universities. The study was anchored on the agenda setting and social responsibility theory. The survey research method was adopted for the study with the effective use of a well-structured questionnaire to ascertain public perception of the movie as a campaign against sex for grades in Nigerian universities. Findings from this research indicated that the movie was very successful in campaigning against sex for grades in Nigerian universities. In addition, the findings of the study indicated media advocacy and sensitization were campaign strategies employed in the movie. More so, the movie Citation played a significant role in exposing sex for grades in Nigerian universities and reinforced people’s opinion on how sex for grades in universities should be handled. The study recommends that for issues of sex for grades to be drastically reduced the government should enact laws with appropriate punishment for any erring lecturer. Students should also be adequately educated on consent and how to handle any issue relating to sex for grades.
