Ten ditch cutting samples dated Middle to Late Paleocene, were obtained from Egboha well, belonging to the Imo Formation in Edo state, covering a depth of 340 feet, a sampling interval of 10 feet and were analyzed for their bulk geochemistry. The samples were tested for: Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Total Nitrogen (TN), Total Carbon (TC) and Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC) all measured in weight percent (wt.%), using standard geochemical methods. In the process, their respective carbon to nitrogen ratios were evaluated, as well as the respective degree of effervescence and dolomite run time. The Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) content was gotten by multiplying the respective TIC values by 8.33. The field and laboratory results obtained were subjected to statistical analysis and discussed. These findings showed that the four lithofacies associations are the sand, shaley sand, sandy shale and mud/shale, the nature of the organic matter that was preserved is 100% phytoclast which belong to organic facies C and CD, the prevalent paleo oxidation condition was oxic, and paleo salinity conditions showed fluctuating salinity which was interpreted as an intermediary salinity common in brackish water systems. All these findings were used to interprete the depositional environment as a shelf environment.
