ABSTRACT
This study examined broadcast media campaign against drug use and abuse among residents Benin City of Edo state Nigeria: A case study of Independent Television and Radio, EBS and NTA Benin. Premised on Mccombs and Shaw agenda setting theory, which depicts the way the media set the order or importance of current issues, especially in the reportage of news and dissemination of information. The study employed survey research method with questionnaires as research instrument to gather data from 400 respondents through three stages using the random, stratified and simple sampling procedure. Findings from the analysis of the data gathered showed that Benin residents have positive attitudes toward family planning media campaign and majority of them also have adequate knowledge of family planning. The researcher concludes that,advertisements and alcohol promotions in the media encourages drugs usages and abuse which has also contributed to the increase in crime rate in the state. Based on the conclusion, the researcher, recommends that drug abuse media campaign and awareness messages should be made more available on other media aside the broadcast media and hospitals, clinics and other health facilities should make conscious effort in sensitizing youths of the danger of drugs abuse and usages.
