ABSTRACT

Municipal solid waste is a byproduct of human activities originating mainly from domestic, industrial and commercial activities. It is a series of heterogeneous materials, whose chemical characteristics are closely related with the chemical properties of various constituent components. In addition to physical components, the chemical characteristics are also a determining factor in establishing the final treatment of municipal solid waste. The aim of this study was to determine the treatability and the physiochemical properties of the  municipal solid waste using the shake flask culture method. The specific objectives were to Determine the  changes in microbiological parameters in the shake flask and also determine the changes in physiochemical parameters. Landfills are used to help store and degrade solid waste. Landfills are facilities used for the final controlled disposal of waste in or onto land. Types of landfills include; municipal solid waste landfill, industrial waste landfill, harzadous waste landfills, green waste landfill, sanitary landfill and managed landfills.
