ABSTRACT
The study assessed the impact of Bendel Insurance Football Club on the socioeconomic development of youths in Edo State Nigeria. The study gives surveyed of the historical antecedence of football club in Nigeria and it influence on youth development. The study examined how football clubs in Nigeria have helped in projecting Nigeria socio-economic activities, especially among youth in Nigeria. This chapter four analysed the historical origin of Bendel Insurance football club; the chapter also captures the organizational structure and operational mode of Bendel Insurance football club. The study identified the various role and achievement of Bendel Insurance football club on youth empowerment in Nigeria. The study contends that football development in Nigeria as anchored around the Nigeria football federation faces challenges of corruption, which is at alarming rate. The real culprits and the actual perpetrators of corruption are not tried and thus, has led to under development of the round leather game in the country. The study suggested eradication of corruption in football as a major step that must be taken, for effective development of football in Nigeria. Nigerian football has achieved great measure a success at both continental and global levels. A significant part of that has occurred through its local clubs and players. However, while players labour has sustained Nigerian football in many ways, the increasing interests of administrators seem to slow down the development of the sport. This situation leads to player flight.
