BALANCING WORKLOAD: EXAMINING THE CHALLENGES TEACHERS FACE IN MANAGING THEIR TIME AND WORKLOAD EFFECTIVELY

ABSTRACT

The research work is on This research work is on the challenges teachers face in managing their time and workload effectively a case study of teachers of secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. To carryout the research work four research questions were raised, which are; what are challenges teachers face in managing time and workload effectively in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, how can teachers balance workload and time to effective performance in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, what are the causes of teachers workload in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, what are the solutions for teachers to balance workload and manage time for effectiveness of job performance in Egor Local Government Area. The study adopted survey research design and 120 respondents were sample. likert scale of four point, SA, A, D and SD. Simple percentage was used to analyzed the data generated. Finding observed that lack of proper organization in school, lack of proper planning, setting agenda are issues teachers faced with managing time and workload. some teacher do not delegate tasks to other teachers. lack of teachers supply in schools, Large class size. The following recommendations were suggested that school authorities should have proper organization and planning in school to avoid workload. Teachers should time schedule and set agenda for themselves and avoid over pilling of workload so that can managed time and workload. Government should employ more teachers to reduce the work load of teachers. Government should build more classroom in various school due to increase in school enrolment. Teachers should be allowed to attend training and seminars on strategies for teachers to overcome workload.
