AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES IN LITERACY CENTERS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study assesses the availability and utilisation of instructional resources in literacy centers in literacy centers in Egor local government area of Edo state. To achieve the purpose of the Study, four research questions were raised and answered .The study adopted the descriptive survey research method. The sample size for the study was made up of 150 respondent selected from five literacy centers in Egor local government area of Edo state. The four research questions for the study were analysed using the frequency count, percentage and mean score analysis. The findings from the study include that projectors, charts, public address system, Flashcards, Primer and Computers are the Instructional resources used in literacy programmes in Egor Local Government area of Edo state. It was also revealed that lack of training on the effective use of instructional resources, increase in the number of learners per class, damage or shortage of instructional materials and no budget for acquiring new instructional resources are the challenges faced by facilitators in utilizing instructional materials. It was recommended that, being that the extent to which facilitators in literacy centers utilize instructional materials is low , the government therefore need to enforce the compulsory use of instructional resources in literacy centers. It is further recommended that government and Non-governmental organizations to see to how these problems are addressed.
