ABSTRACT
The state is a conglomeration of individuals coming together, giving up some of their interest as against those of others. This is to ensure the smooth running of the state and to avert chaos do as to ensure everyone is please and happy. These individuals go ahead to establish government as a machinery through which the state is administered. Ensuring that the basic necessities of the people (such as food, protection of lives and properties) are met and that their rights and freedom is preserved such that no one infringes on those of others are the primary duties of government .When a government fails in this primary duties of his, should it still be retained? Whom should be blamed and who should be held accountable when such things happens? Is it the government, the masses or the leaders? Of course the leaders for the government is but a system, it is run and managed by persons who are thus known as the leaders in such places. Several times, the problems of leadership are usually not far-fetched. It is majorly that of embezzlement and mismanagement of public funds. This is usually where all other evils traits of leadership as we see begins from. Nigeria is one of such cases with leaders who have not run the government properly, embezzled and mismanaged public funds, infringe on the rights and freedom of her citizens and exhibited a carefree attitude as regards the welfare of the masses. In this research we shall be considering some of the acts of irresponsibility as displayed by leaders in Nigeria.
