ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to evaluate audience perception of African independent television presentation of political news, a case study on focus Nigeria programme. The study was set to address three research objectives and was anchored on the tenets of the agenda setting and perception theories. The survey design was used with the aid of a 14 itemed questionnaire. The sample of study was on 250 respondents in Benin city, Edo state. As a results of the field study and analysis of results, the findings revealed that AIT focus Nigeria presentation on political news is of good quality, timely, precise and detailed political news programme. The researchers recommend that the since purpose of the AIT media is to inform the public then media houses should ensure that contents of their news are absolutely free from bias, factual and relevant to the larger society.
