ATTITUDE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS TOWARDS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of the study was to determine the environmental awareness and attitude of undergraduate students in the university of Benin. Six research questions were raised and analysed for the purpose of the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of the study
consisted of a total of 100 students from the department of AEB, PBB and CIT. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample thirty-five (35) AEB students , thirtyfive (35) PBB students and thirty (30) CIT students. The use of questionnaire was
employed as the research instrument . The instrument was developed by the researcher and validated by three experts in the University of Benin, Edo state. The data
collected were analysed using frequency count and Simple percentage.

The major findings of the study based on the analysed data, respondent believe that understanding environmental problems is essential for a well-rounded education, that there is significant difference between the male and female students on environmental awareness and attitude. The study concluded that undergraduate students in the university of Benin possessed high environmental awareness and attitude; that there is a significant difference between male and female students with
respect to environmental awareness and attitude; there is a significant difference between different age groups of students’ in respect to their environmental awareness and attitude. The study recommended that conferences, seminars, and workshops should be organised for retraining of lectures and other educators, and that more environmental contents should be fused into relevant university curriculum.
