ATTITUDE OF STUDENTS TOWARDS LEARNING OF HISTORY AMONG JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

Abstract

This study examines the Attitude of Students towards Learning of History among Junior Secondary School Students in Ovia North East Local Government Area. This study adopted the survey design which was used to access primary data from targeted respondents. The data were analysed using percentage and statistical mean, the result revealed that the attitudes of learners toward history and the classroom environment are significantly correlated. The result showed that the personalities of teachers and pupils' perspectives on history are significantly correlated. The result also shows that gender inequality and pupils' attitudes toward history are significantly correlated. The result further showed that the availability of educational resources and students' attitudes toward teaching and studying history are significantly correlated. The study recommends that the attitudes of students should be encouraged toward history by providing conducive classroom environment which could promote teaching and learning of history. The teachers should exhibit the best personalities’ trait that could enhance the interest and attitude towards. The school should treat both gender equality with respect to students' attitudes toward history. The schools should provide relevant instructional materials that could encourage students' attitudes toward teaching and studying history.
