ATTITUDE OF PARENTS AND TEACHERS TOWARDS CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES IN SOME SELECTED SCHOOLS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Abstract

This research work is on attitude of parents and teachers towards children with learning disabilities in Egor Local Government, three research questions were raised to guide the study, this are; What are the attitudes of parent and teachers towards children with learning disabilities in schools. What are the negative effects of the attitude of parent  and teachers towards children with learning disabilities in Schools. What are the remedial strategies to control the negative effects of the attitudes of parents and teachers towards children with learning disabilities in schools.

            Descriptive survey design was adopted for study, the population comprises of 40 teachers children learning disabilities selected  from  some   schools  in Egor Local Governement, Edo State.  Data was generated and result interpreted . Based on the findings from data collected it was discovered that regular teachers do not have training techniques to teach special needs students.  

The following recommendations are hereby suggested. Leaners with learning disabilities should be given maximum attention to in the classroom, Parents and teachers of learners of children with learning disabilities should avoid comparing them to their peers and help the learn at their own pace. Teachers should be encouraged and trained to develop good attitudes towards learners with learning disabilities, Teaching aids and facilities should be provided for teachers them help enhance the learning of learners with learning disabilities. Seminars, retreat, workshop and conferences should be organized for teachers and parent of learners with learning disabilities on methods of teaching and caring for them
