ABSTRACT

This study examined the Attitude, perception and responsiveness of Abuja Residents towards Family Planning Media Campaign. Premised on Hochbaum & Rosenstock’s Health Belief Model, which sets out to guide health promotion and predict individual changes in health behaviours, as well as the Social Judgment Theory which is concern with the internal mechanism through which media audience interprets media messages. The study employed survey research method with questionnaires as research instrument to gather data from 420 respondents through three stages using the random, stratified and simple sampling procedure. Findings from the analysis of the data gathered showed that Abuja residents have positive attitudes toward family planning media campaign and majority of them also have adequate knowledge of family planning. The study concludes that family planning media campaign has great impacts on Abuja residents and it is being perceived in a positive light. Hence this study recommends that government as well as religious and traditional institutions should do more in sensitizing residents on the benefits of family planning and also make contraceptive readily available.
