ABSTRACT
In rabbit production, the breeder is mainly interested in the relationship that exists between litter weight at birth, pre weaning performance of rabbits and other basic reproductive traits, because all these information would always reflect in their growth performances. Breeders need to establish the relationship between the parameters in order to organize accurate breeding programs. Maximum economic return is usually obtained when there is an optimum combination of body weight. Hence, this study was undertaken in order to determine the relationship between coat colour and performance of rabbit breeds with different coat. Does and kits were used for this study from exotic composite breeds from the university of Benin teaching and research farm before and after weaning, weights were obtained using a weight scale and bi-weekly weight of kits from 2 to 14 weeks was recorded. The data were subjected to analysis of variance to estimate performance. In conclusion, result of this study reveals that coat colour does have significant effect on reproductive and productive performances of rabbits.
