ABSTRACT
This study assesses the assessment of undergraduate student perception on the usage and challenges of artificial intelligence in office technology and management (OTM). Three research questions were asked and answered during the study using frequencies and percentages. The survey research design was adopted for this study; this is because the data is collected from a sample population with specific characteristics.
The targeted population in this study includes all penultimate and ultimate students of Business Education students in the University of Benin (UNIBEN). There are 250 students of both ultimate and penultimate students of Business Education for this study. The sample size for the study is 120 students of both penultimate and ultimate student of Business Education students studying O.T.M Education from the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The sample was drawn from the population using a sample random sampling technique to determine the member which comprises Eighty (50) males and Eighty (70) females for this study through simple random sampling technique. The instrument used to collect data for the study was fifteen items self-structured questionnaire. The instrument for the data collection was personally administered by the researcher to the respondents. The researcher explained to the respondents how to indicate their views on each item.
On the basis of the findings made in the study, it was concluded that he growing importance of AI in the Office Technology and Management field, as students acknowledge its benefits and express interest in learning AI-related skills. However, institutional gaps, such as the lack of AI-focused curriculum, inadequate learning resources, and limited access to expert instructors, hinder students from fully engaging with AI technologies. The researcher recommends that higher education institutions should incorporate AI-related courses into the OTM curriculum, providing structured learning opportunities for students. Also, the researcher recommend that Universities should invest in AI learning materials, workshops, and practical training sessions to improve students' hands-on experience with AI technologies
