ABSTRACT
This study was a survey of the utilization of biology resources in the
teaching and learning of biology in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. The objectives of this study were to uncover the extent to which biology resources are used in the course of teaching biology in secondary schools in Oredo LGA, Edo State.
The type of survey method employed was Correlation survey method and
the study was carried out in both mixed and single gender public and private secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state, Nigeria. The sample size for this study was two hundred (200) students which consisted of fifty (50) students each from four (4) randomly selected secondary schools. The data for the study was collected by administering the Questionnaire on the Utilization of Biology Resources in the Teaching and Learning of Biology (QUBRTLB). The questionnaire contained twenty-five (25) items. After the instrument was validated and reliability was determined as 0.75 using Cronbach Alpha reliability method, the data for the study was then analyzed using percentage and frequency analysis which was presented in related tables.
Findings from the study revealed that a majority of the public secondary
schools in the study area do not utilize biology resources to a satisfactory extent. Based on the findings, it was recommended among other things that biology resources should be made more available to secondary schools in addition to competent teachers who know how to use them properly.
