Abstract
The study assesses the level of women's participation in political activities in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta state. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study:
A total of One Hundred and Eighty (180) respondents from the entire population of the inhabitants of Bomadi local government area of Delta State where selected for the study through purposive sampling techniques. Questionnaire was the major instrument used for data collection and data was analyzed through the use of frequency count and simple percentages.
Findings revealed that women enjoy participating in Politics; they believe politics should not be left for only the male folks and through participation in Politics women can contribute their own quota to national development. It was further revealed that it provides a platform for women to articulate their experiences in a society. It enables women to make more meaningful contributions to the social and economic development of their country. It helps to raise their social status and help them to enjoy the benefits and opportunities as citizens just as men.
It was therefore recommended that there should be an intensive reorientation towards changing the negative perception of both male and female in order to accept women as equal partners in the development of their communities and the country at large. It was further recommended that the relevant stakeholders are advised to advocate for the protection of women from abuse, empower them economically and politically and review the necessary legislations to accommodate the growing interest of women in Politics both elective and appointive positions.
