Abstract
The study was designed to assess the Agricultural extension agents’ perception of the influence of food availability, income and farmers’ resilience on poverty reduction in Delta State, Nigeria. The study used survey research method. The sample size of the study was 180 Agricultural extension agents. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire designed on a 5-point scale ranging from Extremely Aware (5) to Not at all Aware (1) and Very High (5) to Very Low (1) to answer 4 research questions. The data were analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation with acceptance mean value of 3.00 and above. The study showed that the respondents are aware of what poverty reduction entails. It also revealed that the influence of food availability, income and farmers’ resilience measures against economic shocks is high. The study recommends among others that Agricultural extension agents need to know how critical their role is in poverty reduction; the Government of Nigeria should encourage increased food production and food reserve programmes; and government policies should encourage small-scale local food producers to increase production.
