ABSTRACT

The proliferation of Infodemics, defined as excessive information, including misinformation, circulated during crises, has had a significant impact on various sectors, including the realm of education. The main purpose of this study was to assess the impact of Infodemics on mass communication students. The study was to address four research objectives. The study was anchored on the theory of information overload, uses and gratification theory, and source credibility theory. In this study, a survey research was adopted. The population comprised of mass communication students from the university of Benin and Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State. 195 questionnaire was used in the survey design to collect data from 390 students from the department of Mass communication both in the university of Benin and Auchi Polytechnic. As a result of the field and analysis, the findings revealed that Infodemics has both negative and positive impact on mass communication students and also lead to fact-checking.
