ABSTRACT

Technical Drawing is a part of general education which educates an individual or student through carefully selected and proper equipment and tools used in the technical workshop or laboratory. It is an aspect that enables the individual to gain an extra skill while in school. Teacher attitude towards the subject matters a lot and this attracted the attention of the researcher. It was on this assertion this study was designed to assess the factors influencing the attitude of teachers towards the teaching of technical in secondary schools. In this study, a descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consist of teachers teaching Technical Education and students learning Technical Drawing in University of Benin demonstration secondary school. Simple random technique was used to sample 100 respondents consisting of 5 teachers and 95 students in the secondary school. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used to elicit response from the students and teachers. Data collection were analyzed using pie chart, frequency, mean value and percentage. From the analyzed data, it was revealed that the factors influencing the attitude of teachers towards the teaching of technical drawing in University of Benin demonstration secondary school were poor salary, lack of laboratory and workshop equipments and lack of compensation among others. Based on this finding, the following recommendation were made among others: school should be well equiped with the right equipment that suits the school curriculum on technical drawing and allowance should be given to school teacher that perform greatly by the school.
