ASSESSMENT OF THE ENROLMENT AND COMPLETION PATTERN AMONG ADULT LEARNERS IN IKPOBA-OKHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

ABSTRACT

This study assesses the enrolment and completion pattern among adult learners in Ikpoba-okha local government area of Edo State”.Seven (7) research questions were raised to guide the study. The entire population Ninety Five (95) will be utilised as the sample size and therefore no sampling since the size is manageable.The major instrument used for this study was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages Findings of the study revealedthat the actual enrolment rate of adult learners in Ikpoba-okha local government area of Edo State from 2015- 2023adult learners in Ikpoba-okha local government area of Edo State from 2015-2023 is about 81-100%. It was further revealedthat the enrolment strategies used at the Centre are; telling the story of the centre at any given opportunity to friends and neigbours, provision of financial assistance to would be adult learner, launching awareness programmes as it relates to the literacy centre and re-enrolling learners, neighbours, friends and families yearly to ensure continuity.It was therefore recommended that adult educators in Nigeria should be encouraged to manage literacy centres in such a way that there will be continuity in enrolment to be able to have vibrant centres for literacy programmes. It was further recommended that adult literacy centres should as a matter of necessity work very hard to reduce attrition rate by making their programmes attractive and relevant to the needs of the learners.
