ASSESSMENT OF STUDENTS PERCEPTION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ENHANCING LEARNING IN ACCOUNTING

ABSTRACT

This study assessed students perception of artificial intelligence in enhancing learning in accounting. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. The study employed a descriptive research design. The population of this study comprised of 200 – 400 level Business education students (Accounting option) from the department of Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) in faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The sample size of this study was made up one hundred and fifty (150) Accounting students. The instrument used was a structured questionnaire. Cronbach alpha statistics was employed to measure the reliability of the instrument which gave a coefficient of 0.573. The findings greatly showed that Artificial intelligence enhances learning in Accounting. The major findings are Accounting students of University of Benin often use AI technologies for accounting related tasks in their academic work, Accounting students of university of Benin perceive the use of AI applications to be very easy, Accounting students agree that the use of Artificial intelligence (AI) enhances learning in accounting, Accounting students agree that Artificial intelligence equips them with skills needed in the real world of accounting. Based on this finding, it was recommended that there is need for tertiary institutions in Nigeria to update and integrate modern technologies such as Artificial intelligence into the curriculum of accounting programme in order for students to gain exposure to AI tools and concepts and that Proper orientation should be given to students about the relevance and future prospects of AI in accounting.
