ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to investigate the Assessment of Student’s Attitudetoward the Learning of Basic Science in Junior secondary schools in Oredo localgovernment area of Edo StateA descriptive survey research design was employed in this study. five(5) researchquestions were raised to guide the study. The target population of the study consists ofeighty two thousand five hundred and two (80,502) junior secondary schoolstudents ,with sample size of one hundred (100) JSS 2 students in Oredo localgovernment areathrough simple random sampling technique. A structured questionnairewas used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by content and face by myproject supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Curriculum andInstructional Technology ; while the test- re test reliability method was adopted toascertain the reliability of the instrument. Data collected were analyzed using mean andstandard deviation.The study reveals that students feel motivated, interested, and confident inlearning Basic Science. They perceive its importance for their education and find thelessons engaging and interactive. Both male and female students show equal interest,confidence, and perceived importance in learning Basic Science. They also experiencesimilar levels of engagement and motivation in Basic Science activities. Students withhighly educated parents demonstrate more interest, engagement, and confidence inlearning Basic Science. They perceive it as more important for their education and aremore motivated to participate. The availability of instructional materials enhancesstudents' interest, confidence, understanding, engagement, and motivation in BasicScience lessons. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations weremade for the study: Teachers should integrate more interactive and real-life applicationactivities into Basic Science lessons to sustain student engagement and reinforce thesubject's relevance. This recommendation can be disseminated to teachers and schooladministrators. Educators should implement gender-neutral teaching approaches andensure equitable participation opportunities to maintain equal interest and motivationlevels among all students. This recommendation can be shared with teachers and schooladministrators. Stakeholders, including teachers and school administrators, shouldprovide additional support and resources tailored to students from less-educated parentalbackgrounds to boost their interest, engagement, and confidence in Basic Science.Policymakers at the Ministry of Education should prioritize the consistent provision ofdiverse and high-quality instructional materials in Basic Science classrooms to enhancestudent interest, understanding, and motivation. This recommendation should be directedtowards policymakers and education authorities.
