ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted in the screen house to study the effect of different potting media on the seedling growth of soursop (Annona muricata L.). The experiment consisted of sixteen treatments (top soil, top soil + poultry manure 50:50, top soil + poultry manure 50:40, top soil + poultry manure 50:30, top soil + poultry manure 50:20, top soil + poultry manure 50:10, top soil + cow dung 50:50, top soil + cow dung 50:40, top soil + cow dung 50:30, top soil + cow dung 50:20, top soil + cow dung 50:10, top soil + oprb 50:50, top soil + oprb 50:40, top soil + oprb 50:30, top soil + oprb 50:20, top soil + oprb 50:10). The treatments were fitted in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. Plant growth was assessed through plant height, collar girth, number of leaves, dry weight, fresh weight and root length. The result shows that potting media had an effect on the root length of the plant but did not affect the collar girth, fresh weight, dry weight, number of leaves and the plant’s height. This study also indicated that since there were no significant differences in growth parameters due to potting media, the sixteen potting media evaluated are all suitable for the development of soursop seedlings in the nursery. It is expected that the findings from this study will enhance the propagation and cultivation of soursop.
