ABSTRACT This study analyzed and assessed the physico-chemical and biological properties of soils found in selected cattle pens in Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria. The objectives of this study includes; (i) to identify the physico-chemical and biological properties of soils found in selected cattle pens in Benin city, (ii) to establish the variations in the physico-chemical and biological properties of soils found in selected cattle pens located in Benin city, (iii) to deduce the implications of cattle manure on the physico-chemical and biological properties of soils found in Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria. This study was carried out in seven different locations in Benin City including Iyoba, Aduwawa, Eyaen, Oghede, Uholo, Erhunmwuse and Useh; with samples acquired from ten different cattle pens situated in these locations. The data for this study was sourced and collected from primary (direct field observation) and secondary sources. This research engaged the methods of descriptive statistics. Data collected were represented and assessed using tables and international permissible limits for physico-chemical and biological properties identified in the soil. The research reveals that soils found in cattle pens show a marked variance in their composition than soils found without. This study recommends mixed farming techniques to be employed by farmers in order to maximize the richness of the soil.
