ASSESSMENT OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN THE MONITORING OF ACHIEVEMENT OF PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, BENIN CITY.

ABSTRACT

This research study probes on the Assessment of Parental Involvement in the Monitoring of Achievement of Primary School Children in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City. The objectives of the study were to determine the impact of parental initiative on primary school children, to examine the impact of parenting time on the academic performance of primary school children, to identify ways in which parents can improve the academic performance of children. The objective was to investigate the impact of father's help and explore the impact of parental role on primary school academic performance of school children. Descriptive Survey research was adopted for this study. The population for this study consists of parents of children in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City. Questionnaires were administered to 80 respondents (parents) in within Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City using Purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was done using frequency count and percentage to account for distribution and scores.

The results showed that parental initiative influences primary school children, the study also showed that parents influence the academic performance of primary school children, the study also showed that parenting time affects performance academic of primary school children. And finally, studies show that parents help increase children's academic performance. Therefore, based on the findings, it is recommended that parents always volunteer to attend parent-teacher meetings, inform their children about the school and be involved in their children's school activities.
