ABSTRACT

Ocular bacteria flora plays a very significant role in defense mechanism of the eyes by competing for nutrition and space with pathogenic bacteria. They also produce certain substances, which make the conditions unfavorable for the growth of other bacteria that may be pathogenic bacteria. There are many types of swimming pool conjunctivitis one of which is bacterial conjunctivitis and also pseudomonas has been associated with contamination of recreational water. This is to determine the ocular bacteria floral and antibiotic sensitivity pattern before and after swimming. An observational cross- sectional study was carried out on the right eye of 27 participants with healthy anterior segment, the samples was collected using a sterile cotton wool swab before and after swimming and then transported to the laboratory within four to six hours (4-6) of collection for analysis. Data obtained from the study was analyzed using the statistical package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0.
