Summary

This study investigated the leadership styles and job performances of broadcast stations workers in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study became necessary following the accomplish that leadership styles in one way or the other affects job performance negatively or positively. Therefore, the assessment of leadership styles and job performances of broadcast stations’ workers in Rivers State, Nigeria. The broadcast media organizations were made up of government and private owned broadcast stations. The study adopted survey research design to enable the researcher to measure a broad array of characteristics of a population of interest by administering a questionnaire to a sample of members of the population. The research population for this study was made up of 1629 employees as supplied by Managers of all the broadcasting stations under study. It comprises management/senior staff and junior staff of all the broadcasting stations in River State, Nigeria. The television and radio stations are; Rivers State Television (RSTV) 220. African Independent Television (AIT) 81, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) 238, and Silverbird Cinema (SC) Portharcourt 112. The radio stations are; Radio Rivers FM 162, Wazobia FM 84, Rhythm FM 92, Garden City FM 82, Treasure FM 124, Cool FM 96, Garden City FM 92, Family Love FM 86, Classic FM 98, Ray Power FM 84, Nigeria Info FM 90. The sampling techniques employed for this study was stratified sampling techniques. The data collection was done through actual visit to all the broadcast stations in Rivers State and face-to-face distribution and administration of the questionnaire to the respondents, the questionnaire for this study composed of six sections. The first section focused on the demographic characteristics of the respondents such as age, gender, educational qualification, etc. the second section of the questionnaire look at the leadership styles adopted in broadcast stations, the third section seek to know the level of job performance of broadcast stations workers, the fourth section ascertain the ways leadership styles affect job performances of workers while the fifth section consider the extent leadership styles adopted influence job performance and the sixth section, elicit factors responsible for leadership styles adopted in broadcast station.
