ABSTRACT

The study investigates the assessment of how high Performing undergraduates use social media in Nigeria Universities: a case study of University of Benin. To achieve the purpose of the study five research questions were raised to guide the study. The adopted descriptive survey research design had a sample of 72 respondents selected through a snowballing sample technique. The questionnaire titled: Assessment of How High Performing Undergraduate Students use Social Media Questionnaire (HPSSMQ) was the instrument for data collection. The validity of the Instrument was to ensure through the experts' judgement approach and it's reliability was determined using the Conbach's Alpha Procedure with a correlation coefficient of 0.71. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics which involved simple percentages, and mean score analysis. The findings from the study showed that High Performing Undergraduate Students in University of Benin do not spend most of their time on social media platforms and when they visit social media platform they only share academic content and other information relating to their studies. It was therefore recommended among others that students who are already addicted to social media should approach the Counselling Unit of the University for appropriate counseling therapy in order to have a stable academic life while In school.
