ASSESSMENT OF GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT IN ADULT LITERACY CENTRE IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This project examined the Assessment of Government Involvement in Adult Literacy Centres in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. To provide focus for the study, four research questions were raised. The population consist of staff members of Pioneer Adult Education Centre. The simple random sampling techniques was adopted. A sample of (100) respondents was randomly selected from the population. A descriptive frequency and simple percentage was used. From the findings of the study it was revealed that government involvements in adult literacy will make adult learners to be resourceful in Oredo local government area. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that government involvements in adult literacy will make adult learners to be resourceful in Oredo local government area. Also there is need for Government involvement in adult education to transcends economic returns to greater community benefit. There is need for government assessment should be put in place in equipping the participants for wage employment or self-employment in Oredo local government area. Finally, the use of computers and internet by adult education participants would help in achieving sustainable development. Based on the conclusion the following recommendations were made that there is need for government to establish mechanisms to monitor the effectiveness of adult literacy programs in Oredo Local Government Area. As regular assessments and evaluations can help to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that programs meet the needs of learners. Also, there is need for government to contribute to the developing appropriate curricula tailored to the needs of adult learners in Oredo Local Government Area.
