ABSTRACT
To ensure that the project is completed on schedule and within budget, cost control attempts to deliver a high level of cost certainty throughout the building phase. Thepurpose of the study are to: identify design stage cost control practices adopted in construction projects in Edo State,examine factors influencing design stage cost control in construction projects,anddetermine the difference in the adoption of design stage cost control practices for different procurement methods.A total population of 617 of building experts: the Quantity Surveyors, Architects, Engineers and Builders in various construction and contracting organizations in Edo State, were the target demographic population for this study. A random sampling technique was used, and data gathered using a questionnaire, and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to evaluate it. Mean item score and Kruskal Wallis was utilized as the methods of analysis.According to the findings' conclusion, Feasibility study was the most widely used design stage cost control practice in the Edo State construction industry. Errors in design was one of the main factors influencing design stage cost control in construction projects in Edo State. It was found out there was no significant difference in the adoption of design stage cost control practices for different method of procurement in construction projects in Edo State.Overall, the findings of this study could assist design professionals in monitoring and controlling cost at the design stage of building constructions.
