ASSESSMENT OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS SELECTION IN EDO STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

This research was carried out to assess construction contractors selection in Edo state. A total sample of 211 sample was randomly drawn from a population of 445 consisting Architects, Engineers and Quantity Surveyors practising in Edo state. Four research questions were raised as well as two hypothesis. Data was collected using structured questionnaire administered online and physically. The data collected was then analysed based on the research objectives. RII was used to rank to the level of importance of the variables and Mann Whitney U test of significance was used to test the hypotheses. Results and findings showed that the most significant factor affecting Construction Contractors selection in Edo state is reference to type of projects completed while the least significant factor is size of organisation. The result of the hypotheses tested showed that the private and public sectors are not different on their opinions of the methods of Construction Contractors selection. However, there are some differences between the selection criteria used in the public and private sectors.
