ASSESSMENT OF AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF E-LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING OF BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN UNIVERSITIES IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study focus on the assessment of the availability and utilization of e-learning technology for business education programme in universities in Edo state. In the course of this study, a total population of two hundred and fifty (250) business education student was used and a sample size of one hundred and eighteen (118) respondent was sampled. From the research carried out, it was found that there is a wide range of e-learning technologies readily available for universities to incorporate into business education programme, e-learning technologies boost students motivation to learn, and e-learning technologies are under utilized in business education programme and e-learning technologies such as smart phones , YouTube, Whatsapp, telegram, zoom are adequately utilized. Based on the findings of the study, YouTube is said to help students to learn at their own pace and time, facilitate students engagements and comprehension and boost students understanding on specific subject area. Telegram can also boost group learning among students, enhance students access to educational material and resources and Telegram group can accommodate up to a thousand participants there by facilitating collaboration and interaction . Whatsapp also facilitate group discussion and collaboration among students , it is a valuable tool for communication among students and it helps to promote teachers-students interaction beyond class room. However, zoom promotes group learning and students participation, also increases accessibility of education material to students and stimulate the interest of the learner. Therefore, recommendations were made that e-learning technologies is a relevant tool for business education students therefore, e-learning technologies such as YouTube, Whatsapp, telegram and Zoom should be made available, accessible and incorporated into business education programme in universities. Universities should ensure that they have access to all options of e-learning technologies in other to assist business education students.
