ABSTRACT
Background: Universal health coverage is the goal in the health sector for every people-oriented government. In order to facilitate the universal health coverage of her citizens and residents, the Edo State government established the Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDOHIC) and Edo State Health Insurance Scheme (EDOHIS) in 2019. In the same vein, the formal health plan was made compulsory for all civil servants of the state. This study assessed the acceptance and uptake of Edo State Health Insurance Scheme among civil servants in Benin City.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was carried out among Edo State civil servants in Benin City from December 2022 to December 2023. A two–stage cluster sampling technique was used to select 519 participants for the study. Data was collected from respondents using self–administered questionnaire containing both open ended and close ended questions. The questionnaire was an online Google Form that was administered to the selected respondents. The data was analyzed using IBM SPSS version 25. The level of statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Ethical approval was obtained from Ethics and Research Committee, University of Benin Teaching .
