ABSTRACT

The culture of a particular group of people has the ability to shape the built environment of those said people. the design of their domestic spaces is unique to different people because of this so, architectural appreciation is often used to shed light on certain buildings of interest and helps to document the information surrounding that building This study of this building of Architectural interest, seeks to address the cultural significance of the building with their geographical and serial context, fundamental design principles, and building materials used, construction techniques, environmental factors affecting the said building. The study briefly introduces the Chief Ogiamien Palace, its history, its geographical location and style of Architecture. It talks about the Palace building outlining the construction process and stages as well as materials used for construction. The geographical impact of the building in relation to its immediate environment is also addressed as it is important to understand why this palace is considered a culturally significant building in Benin city By stating how events of time have affected the structure and its structural integrity, we can piece together the transformation the building has undergone knowing this building plays a huge role in the understanding of the history of Benin city Architectural appreciation is a very invaluable aspect in the study of architecture documentation of history and hence its importance cannot be over emphasized.
