ABSTRACT

The experiment was carried out in the screen house of the Department of soil science and Land management at Agriculture Research and Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture. The aim was to evaluate the potential of using rice husk as soil amendment in maize (Zea may) production. The experiment was laid out in a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatment replicated three times. Data were obtained on selected soil chemical and biological properties. They were analysed using standard laboratory procedures. Results indicated that the effect of rice husk improved soil physical and chemical properties. It is recommended that rice husk at 9g could be applied to improve the soil chemical and organic matter content respectively for increased soil fertility in the study area.
