ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the application of ICT in an Early Childhood Education (ECE) classroom, the case study of nursery schools in Oredo local government Area, Benin city. Edo State. Five research questions were raised to guide this study. A descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population of the study comprises of teachers in public and private primary schools within Oredo local government Area, Benin city, Edo state. The sample size of the study was 60 respondents drawn from the population. A questionnaire was used to elicit responses from the respondent. The instrument was validated with a reliability index of 0.85. The collected data were analysed using mean and standard deviation, it is used for research question one to five. The findings that emerged revealed that the level of ICT application in Early Childhood Education Classroom in Oredo Local Government area was high. In addition, it is shown that it is common for teachers and teachers in ECE classroom to regularly use digital devices such as tablets and computers when teaching and learning. It further revealed that there is a clear curriculum frame work in place that supports ICT integration and teachers willingness and positive attitude to embrace and use ICT in their teaching. It is also revealed in the hypothesis that there is no significant difference in the application of ICT in early childhood education based on Sex and location, while there is a significant difference Based on school ownership as it is in the favour of private owned schools. Based on the findings, it was recommended that schools should integrate ICT into the curriculum in a meaningful and intentional way and ICT should be used in a developmentally appropriate way to make lessons more fun and less boring and when used thoughtfully and purposely, ICT can be a valuable tool in supporting early childhood education and preparing young learners for a technologydriven world.
