ABSTRACT
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infectious diseases and the most common nosocomial infection in the developed world. Increasing resistance to therapeutically important antimicrobial agents and the recent emergence of the virulent and multidrug-resistant genes possessed by enterococcus faecalis have made UTI management progressively more costly and challenging. This research was carried out to determine the antibiotic resistance of Enterococcus Faecalis in patients with urinary tract infection in Benin by studying the antibiotic pattern and Gene expression. From the descriptive analysis, enterococcus spp present in the urine samples did not respond to antibiotics Augmentin and Erythromycin and other antibiotics after antibiotics sensitivity test. The Gene expression studies carried out expressed various genes from isotopes of Entero spp analysed and these were seen to have resistance against antibiotics like aminoglycosides and erythromycin.
