ABSTRACT
The antibiotic resistant and susceptible bacteria associated with bus door handles in central park Benin city, Edo state was investigated. A total of 40samples were collected from bus door handles in central park using moist sterile swab stick on Biu, Sapele route, Airport route, Sakponba route and Evhotubu routes BIU route had the highest bacterial count which ranged from 2 cfu/cm2 to 200 cfu/cm2 while Sapele route had the least bacteria count which ranged from I fu/cm2 to 190 cfu/cm2. The bacteria isolate were Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella sp, Escherichia Coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Micrococcus sp, Enterococcus and Bacillus sp. Antibiotics susceptibility pattern of the isolates determined by disc diffusion methods revealed that all the Dacterial isolates were senisitive to Augmentin. Most of the bacterial isolates were resistant to Ciprofoxacin, Gentamycin, Nitrofurantum, Cefuroxime, Ofloxacin, Cefixime and Ceftazie. The results of this study revealed the presence of potentially pathogenic bacteria on the door handles of commercial vehicles.
