ABSTRACT
This research investigated the effect of a poly-herbal aqueous extract on the sucrose tolerance test effects in Sprague Dawley rats. The three plant samples to be utilized were collected and processed to form an extract. 39 adult male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 3 control groups – positive, negative and normal and graded doses (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg) of the poly-herbal aqueous extract. The rats were orally administered graded doses of the extract for 9 days. Sucrose solution was administered per oral to the different group of rats and their blood glucose ware checked at 30, 60 and 120 minutes respectively using standard protocol. The results indicated a significant decrease across the different doses when compared to the untreated (diabetic) and normal control groups. A significant decrease in across graded doses compared to the positive, untreated and normal control groups. In conclusion, these findings agree with the report of folklore findings on the liver protective effect of the poly-herbal aqueous extract.
