SUMMARY
The use of Enantia chlorantha in the management of diabetes is a common practice among some local communities in Nigeria. Data obtained from this study indicates that Enantia chlorantha is efficacious as an antidiabetic agent. In this study, induction of diabetes tends to increase the activity of GSK-3 gene when compared with the normal control. Administration of the standard drug metformin and hydro ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of Enantia chlorantha suppressed the activity of the GSK-3 gene. The study also shows that hydroethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of Enantia chlorantha possibly has antidiabetic properties.
