ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF VACCINATION ON CHILDREN’S HEALTH CARE

ABSTRACT

Vaccine-preventable diseases remain the most common cause of childhood mortality with an estimated three million deaths each year. Immunization and vaccination are two of the most important public health interventions scheme, and constitute a cost effective strategy to reducing both the morbidity and mortality associated with infectious diseases. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of vaccination on child’s healthcare in Edo state using Oredo Local Government as a case study. A survey was conducted on 399 samples of parents chosen from the population of Oredo LGA of Edo state. Data was collected using a pre-tested structured questionnaire was randomly distributed. Data collected was processed (analyzed) using R programming for statistical and data analysis. Descriptive statistics was used to describe all variables in the survey while inferential Chi-square test of independent was used to test the study’s hypothesis. The result showed that there is a relationship between vaccination and the child’s healthcare. We therefore recommend that the level of awareness on the need for vaccination should be increase and that religious organizations and the media should be use to increase the awareness level of the effect of not taken the complete vaccination on the child’s healthcare.
