ABSTRACT

The study analyzes soil quality of termitaria landscape in Orogho village, Orhionwon local government area, Edo state, Nigeria. The objectives of the study includes ; examine the quality of termite mound soils, examine the soil physical, chemical properties of the termitaria landscape soil, ascertain the soil nutrients dynamics between the termitaria soil and the adjacent forest soil. Soil samples were collected at (0-15)cm depth in two different landscape; termiteria landscape and the tropical wooded savanna in Orhionwon local government area, Edo state, in which a total of thirty soil samples were collected. The data for this study was sourced and collected from primary (direct field observation) and secondary sources. The research makes uses of descriptive and inductive statistics, the statistical tools used were ANOVA and student T-Test, ANOVA was used to determine the significant difference in the parameter among the treatment and control site. Data collected were statistically analyzed using tables and means. Results procured showed significant differences (P < 0.05) in available bulk density, amongst and between studied sites. The study concluded that while land use had significant effect on the quality of soils in the termite mound (top and base soil), on the other hand, it had no significant effect on the quality of soil in the tropical wooded savanna (control) in the study area. The study provided further information for future research efforts on soil quality. The study recommended that further detailed studies can be carried on termite mound soil to expand the scope of the study.
