ABSTRACT
This research project focused on identifying and evaluating the safety skills necessary for electrical/electronics students in technical colleges when handling electrical/electronics equipment, using Government Science and Technical College (GTSC) in Benin City as a case study. The study was structured around four specific research questions that directed the data collection and interpretation. This study comprised fifty samples representing all students currently enrolled in the Electrical and Maintenance Work Department at Government Science and Technical College, Benin, for the 2023/2024 session. The total population is estimated at 97 students. The primary data collection instrument was a questionnaire, validated by the supervisor and two other lecturers from the Department of Vocational and Technical Education. Reliability was assessed by administering the questionnaire to twenty students not included in the sample, resulting in a reliability coefficient of 0.72 using the split-half method. Data analysis and findings were conducted using frequency counts and simple percentages. All workshop users must be well-versed in essential safety skills prior to starting work, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents and ensuring a safe working environment.
