ANALYSIS OF FOOD SECURITY OF VULNERABLE GROUPS

ABSTRACT

The vulnerable groups are the most prone to the menace of food insecurity yet there exists a dearth of information on their dietary diversity and food security status. This study, therefore, examined the food security of vulnerable groups in Ughelli South LGA, Delta State, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were to describe socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents, ascertain their livelihood diversification, determine their food security status and identify constraints faced by respondents in achieving food security. A two-stage sampling procedure was used to select 120 respondents for the study. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean, frequency counts, percentages and standard deviation and inferential statistics such as Logit regression, PPMC and Multiple regression at 5% significance level.
