ABSTRACT
The main aim of this research is to thoroughly investigate the connection between study habits and academic achievement among English students at the University of Benin. Employing a descriptive survey research design, questionnaires were designed to collect data for the study. The questionnaire which is titled "An Investigation on the Correlation between Reading habits and Academic performance among Undergraduates English students in the University of Benin the researcher personally administered the questionnaire to the students and the collection was done on the spot to facilitate ease and prompt return. The research questions guided the study, in which concentration reading is the most commonly used reading habit by English students in the Department of Educational Foundations, that the academic performance of the students has a significant and positive relationship across all the types of reading habits among English students, and that a majority of English Students in the Department of Educational Foundations prefer reading ebooks/pdf. Recommendations include Encourage English students in the Department of Educational Foundations to further develop and refine their concentration reading skills, as it is identified as the most prevalent reading habit. Implement strategies such as guided reading sessions or mindfulness techniques to enhance focus and comprehension Further research avenues include Establishing programs or workshops aimed at raising awareness about the different types of reading habits and their impact on academic performance. Provide resources and guidance on how students can cultivate effective reading habits tailored to their learning needs. Overall, this study Encourage ongoing research and exploration into the correlation between reading habits and academic performance in English. Foster collaborations with other departments or institutions to conduct longitudinal studies or comparative analyses across diverse student populations. Continuously evaluate and refine recommendations based on emerging evidence and feedback from stakeholders.
