AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE SIDE EFFECT OF CONTRACEPTIVE DEVICES IN MOTHERS HEALTH

ABSTRACT

This study was designed to investigate the side effect of contraceptive devices in mothers health in Egor LGA, Edo State. To guide this study, three research questions were raised. The survey research design was used in conducting the study. The main instrument for the study was a self-structured questionnaire. The population of the study was 100. The validity of the instrument was established by giving it to the supervisor and two other experts in the field of the research study. The data obtained from the questionnaires were subjected to analysis using frequency counts and percentages. Results from the study from 100 respondents showed that contraceptives do have side effects on mothers health, also there are factors that influence the use of contraceptives among mothers and because of these factors there are certain attitudes towards the use of contraceptives among them. At the end of the study, it was recommended that the health care providers should examine mothers in order to select the appropriate contraceptive devices for them, mothers should be enlightened on the several methods of contraceptives available in order to select the most suitable methods for them, the government through the federal ministry of health and education should ensure that the knowledge about contraceptives, it’s use and effects is emphasized to the mothers and health campaigns are being taken to the market and public gatherings to educate them on this and husbands should be involved fully and supportive as family planning is to be done together as well as the selection of the these contraceptives too.
